FHS track cruises to sectional wins

Both the Falkville boys and girls track teams had easy wins at the Section 3 championships at Falkville High School Friday. The state meet is Friday through Saturday at Troy University.
Shane Edge took victories in the 200, 400 and 800 meters and Justin Blanchard was the individual 1,600-meter run champion. The Blue Devils' 4-by-400 and 4-by-800 relay teams also took first place.
Cody Sewell had first-place finishes in the 110 hurdles, high jump and long jump. Jace Wilemon took first in the 300 hurdles; Josh Henderson was first in the pole vault; Aaron Pitt won the shot put; Jon Lindsey took first in discus and Michael Dekich won the javelin throw.
On the girls' side, Krystal Gibbs took first place in the 400 and 800 meters and Lauren Estes won the 200 meters and 300 hurdles. Alisha Sparkman took first in the 100 hurdles, pole vault and javelin and Alesia Smith won in the 100 hurdles. Paige McCarley had first-place finishes in the high jump, triple jump and long jump and Katrina Barnett took first in the shot put.
The Lady Blue Devils' 4-by-100 and 4-by-400 relay teams also took first place.
Brewer's Scott, Childs take 1st place at sections
At the Class 5A, Section 3 meet in Scottsboro, Brewer's Courtney Scott finished first in the javelin throw, second in the shot put and third in discus. Rodney Childs took first in the long jump and second in the triple jump.
