Friday night’s Hartselle’s Relay for Life cancer fundraiser brought in $73,869, or $7,188 above its goal, according to Amy Balch, events chairperson.
Balch said 70 cancer survivors attended a reception given in their honor at the start of a “Cancer Never Sleeps” overnight walk. Each one received a “Survivor” T-shirt and as a group they also walked the first lap of a quarter-mile walking track at Legion park.
The theme of the event was “TV Land—Tune in for a Cure.”
Balch credited the increase in donations to an increase in the number of teams that participated.
Balch said some of the teams have not yet made final reports and donations continue to trickle in. The project won’t be closed out until Aug. 1.
