If you interested in protecting your family farm or “castle in the country” from future municipal encroachment you may want to attend a public hearing on that subject May 12 at 10 a.m. at Sparkman School gymnasium.
The hearing was scheduled several weeks ago by the Morgan County Commission after three municipalities took steps to expand their jurisdictions. The city of Arab in Marshall County wanted to expand its police jurisdiction into the southeastern part of Morgan County; Hartselle leaders proposed to re-establish a police jurisdiction; and the town of Somerville proposed an annexation on its southern boundary. Hartselle and Somerville have since backed off of those proposals.
Glasscock said everyone present will be given a chance to speak but there will be a five-minute per speaker limit.
“When we chose this date we didn’t realize that May 12 is the day before Mother’s Day,” Glasscock said. “Hopefully that won’t be a problem for those who wish to attend.”
Sparkman School Principal Ronnie Moore said the school gym is capable of comfortably seating up to 300 people.
