Students at Crestline and Burleson elementary schools will soon have their signatures up in space.
The students are taking part in the Signature in Space program. The program allows students to send their digitized signatures into space through a Space Shuttle mission.
More than 500 schools from around the country are participating in the program. The program is sponsored by NASA and Lockheed Martin.
Crestline program coordinator Dan Bennich said the students sign their name on a large card and then NASA digitizes the signatures and sends them into space. The mission that will transport the signatures will be selected this summer. The missions are usually selected in the fall so teachers and students can follow the mission.
After they have been in space, the poster with the signatures will be returned to the schools and placed on permanent display.
