The 96th Commencement of Hartselle High School will be held Friday, May 25, at 7 p.m. with 187 seniors scheduled to receive their diplomas. The event will be staged on the south end of the J. P. Cain Stadium playing field with parents and other family members, school faculty and underclassmen viewing the ceremony from both home and visitor stands.
In the event of inclement weather, there is no plan to move the program indoors. Instead, the proceedings will be postponed in 30-minute intervals if bad weather is an issue, according to Principal Jerry Reeves. A thunderstorm brewing at 7 p.m., for instance, would mean that the program would be delayed until 7:30 p.m. If bad weather should persist, the ceremony will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the same location.
Principal Jerry Reeves will begin the program by welcoming students, parents and guests. Dr. Mike Reed will extend greetings from the superintendent. Reeves and Dr. Joe Walters will recognize honor graduates by presenting a medal to each one of them. Reeves will award diplomas with the assistance of Johnny Berry, head boys basketball coach and guidance counselor.
Four honor graduates (those with grade point averages of 4.0 or above) will have speaking parts on the program. Quinn Dunlap will give the welcome address, Laura Summerford will reflect on the history of the class, Hannah Lackey will offer encouragement for the future and Shannon Coots will give the farewell address.
The 23 honor graduates will be recognized individually by Reeves and Walters as medal recipients. The honorees are Dunlap, Summerford, Lackey, Coots, Tyler Terry, Catie Keel, Catherine Garner, Kristen Faulk, Josh Harris, Kristen Landrum, Lauren Drake, Ashley Green, Steven Paulos, Seth Morris, Hilary Dukes, Janie Oswalt, Brittany Eaton, Daniel Filiatrault, Lauren Bergstrue, Dallas Kalber, Clay Whatley, Chris Street and Josh Aycox.
