HJHS, concession stand miss mark in food inspections

Hartselle Junior High School and the food services at the Hartselle Baseball Field were both cited by the Morgan County Health Department during recent inspections.
According to health inspectors, HJHS received an 83 and the baseball field concession stand received an 84. The inspections took place May 17 and May 16, respectively.
A food establishment must receive an 85 to pass.
HJHS was cited for two critical items: food not stored at proper temperatures and sanitation problems with the ice machine. Inspectors found hamburgers stored at 89 degrees.
HJHS’ lunchroom was also cited for lack of hair restraints on workers, the presence of rat droppings, cleanliness of the ceiling.
The concession stand, located at 406 Nanceford Road, was cited for one critical item: problems with grease disposal.
Inspectors also found: problems with thermometers and the dishwasher; chipped paint on shelves; boxes stored on the floor; lack of towels for handwashing; no covered can in bathroom; fly strips above food prep area; lack of cleanliness in floors, walls and ceilings; inadequate ventilation; and a fly swatter located on the single-service item shelf.
The softball concession stand received an 88. The soccer concession stand received a 90.
