A Hartselle police officer who broke up a robbery and freed a hostage at Hometown Market in October 2006 was recognized as one of 10 state Medal of Honor nominees during a legislative session on the House floor in Montgomery May 17.
Third Shift patrolman Chip Reynolds was honored for shooting Larry Dean Maples in the shoulder as he attempted to flee after allegedly robbing the grocery store and taking a clerk as a hostage.
Reynolds’ intervention resulted in Maples’ capture and release of the hostage without injury.
Police Chief Ron Puckett and other department officers attended the ceremony.
Reynolds received the Medal of Valor at the Hartselle Police Department’s annual awards dinner on May 14.
