Special to the Enquirer
Danville-Neel Elementary School’s second annual Kindergarten Rodeo was enjoyed by more than 300 students, faculty members and parents on Friday, May 17.
The fun-filled event was conducted exclusively for kindergarteners from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
After that, third and fourth graders were invited to participate. Other grades spent the day on field trips.
The first hour of the rodeo featured group singing of songs such as ”I’m a Little Cowboy” and “She’ll Be Coming Around the Mountain,” square dancing, a calf roping demonstration and barrel racing.
Kindergarten teachers received a big round of applause after line dancing to music performed by the Sly Groove Country Band.
Afterwards, students were given free rein to spend the remainder of the morning participating in a number of rodeo events. They including riding a mechanical bull, riding real horses, jumping up and down and rolling in an inflatable house, visiting a petting zoo and listening to string band music.
A picnic lunch featuring hamburgers with all the trimmings was served at noon.
Teacher Teresa Terrell thanked parents and business sponsors for their help.
