Every day that goes by without rain is putting Morgan County farmers farther away from being able to make a profit this growing season, according to Mike Reeves, urban regional extension agent.
The National Weather Service describes current weather conditions in the Tennessee Valley as being an “extreme drought.” The rainfall deficit for May was more than 3 inches and more than 10 inches since March 1.
The county’s corn crop is really taking a beating from adverse weather conditions, according to Reeves.
He also said the drought adversely affected hay growth and resulted in lower than normal yields.
His advised homeowners to water landscape sod and ornamentals to keep them green and growing.
