Parents will now receive notice on school emergencies

A fail-safe method of notifying parents of a school-related emergency has been approved by the Hartselle School Board.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed was authorized to enter into a three-year contract with High Ground Solutions to set up and maintain an emergency notification system for all five city schools.
He said parents would be asked to furnish contact information such as home, office and cell phone numbers and email addresses, as well as to give notification of any changes.
The service will cost $2.85 per student and faculty member per year for the first two years of the contract. It will automatically increase to $3 for the third year.
The board approved recommendations on personnel items as follows:
Robin Halbrooks as a special education teacher at Hartselle High, effective for the 2007-08 school year, pending certification; Kenneth Lopez as a 10-month guidance counselor at Hartselle High, effective for the 2007-08 school year, pending certification in counseling; Kimberly Pittman as a chemistry teacher at Hartselle High, effective for the 2007-08 school year, pending certification;
Christy Radford as an English teacher at Hartselle High, effective for the 2007-08 school year, pending certification; David Robinson as a library media specialist at Hartselle High, for the 2007-08 school year, Margaret Praytor as co-sponsor of the Hartselle High dance team; Shane Alexander as a seventh grade assistant football coach for the 2007-08 school year; and Johnny Johns to wash and clean buses for the summer at $9 per hour.
