Drivers on a well-traveled Hartselle road will soon be able to go a little faster.
The city is increasing the speed limits along the portions of Kyle Road that are located within in the municipality. Portions of Kyle Road are within the city; others are within the county.
"This way Kyle Road will have one speed limit from end to end which will make enforcement much easier for our police department and the sheriff's office," Mayor Dwight Tankersley said.
The portions of the road within the county are already posted at 45 mph. The portions currently in the city are 30 mph, the speed limit for all non-posted roads in Hartselle.
The city was approached by Commissioner Ken Livingston about making the speed limit uniform. A traffic study was conducted, showing the average speed limit on the road is 56 mph. State law dictates the level at which a speed limit can be increased.
