A local couple was part of a multi-state drug ring that shipped narcotics-stuffed computers from Texas to Hartselle, law enforcement officials allege.
Douglas Michael Birdyshaw and Dana Dixon Birdyshaw, both 30, are charged with marijuana and hydrocodone trafficking.
The couple, who live at 1505 Berryvine Avenue in the up-scale Booth Meadows subdivision, are being held in Morgan County Jail on $300,500 bond each.
Agents with the Madison-Morgan County Strategic Counterdrug Team arrested the Birdyshaws June 16. Agents found a stash of drugs, two dozen guns and some $66,000 in cash at the home. Other property was also seized at the home.
Local authorities had been tipped off by Texas law enforcement that cocaine and other drugs were being shipped from Texas to Morgan County through a commercial delivery company. The drugs were stuffed inside the large processing units of computers.
The Birdyshaws have not been charged with trafficking in cocaine but law enforcement said more charges could follow.
