Funeral for Fay Mullins McCurley of Hartselle was Saturday, June 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Drs. Jeff Redmond and Ron Wilson officiating.
Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery.
Ms. McCurley died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born in Hartselle to Simeon Elvis Mullins and Nancy Ophelia Burch Mullins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Nell Mullins Anderson and Ruth Mullins Brown.
She was a Hartselle resident for most of her life, where she founded McCurley Jewelry in 1960. She continued to operate the business for 26 years, selling it to take care of her only grandchild, Chandler Fay Bell.
Momma Fay, as Chandler called her and she became known to many, was known for tackling almost any cause she believed in. She carefully gathered her facts and helped her family and friends who needed her, almost always succeeding in whatever challenge she undertook. The impossible took her just a bit longer.
She was a steadfast and loving supporter of her family and a lifelong and faithful member of Hartselle First Baptist Church, where she loved being a member of the Mary Quinn Sunday School Class.
She is survived by two daughters, Kayce McCurley Bell and husband Billy Jack of Hartselle and Nancy Dierdre (DD) McCurley Ellis and husband Donald of New Orleans, La.; her daughters' father, Cecil McCurley of Decatur; a brother, Otto (Toby) Mullins and wife Shirley of Decatur; two sisters, Dorothy Mullins Black and Ann Mullins Moses, both of Decatur; a granddaughter, Chandler Fay Bell of Kennesaw, Ga.; eight nieces and nephews; several grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and a dear friend of almost 50 years, Jeannie Hultquist of Birmingham.
Pallbearers were Ron Black Jr., Scott Brown, Harry Golden, Ron Martin, Phillip Moses and Randy NeSmith.
