Hartselle 9/10 teams stay alive at district tournament

Through Monday night's games, both Hartselle 9/10-year-old All-Star teams were still alive at the District 1 Tournament held at Sparkman Park. The championship game was scheduled for Wednesday, with a second game Thursday if necessary.
Hartselle National 6, Athens National 2
Josh McCarley scored two runs and Lon Starr, Benny Brown and D.J. Bunn scored one run each as Hartselle National remained undefeated Monday. Hartselle National advanced to play Decatur National Tuesday with the winner scheduled to advance to the championship round.
Brown and Tyler Bullard each had two singles, Curtis Russell hit a double and Bunn singled once. Austin Maner pitched two innings and Bullard worked four.
Hartselle American 7, Decatur American 5
Hartselle American stayed alive with a win in the losers' bracket Monday, advancing to face Athens National in another elimination game Tuesday.
Collins Hanners scored two runs, singled and doubled and Ghaith Vest scored a run, singled and doubled. Tyler Cook scored a run and hit two singles and Brandon Woodard hit a double. Logan Hansard, Trent Sivley and Andrew Segars each scored a run and Mason Pettey and Taylor Steele singled.
Hansard, Deajay Klett and Cook each worked two innings on the mound.
Hartselle National 12, Decatur National 6
Four different players scored two runs as Hartselle National improved to 2-0 with its win over Decatur National Saturday. Brown, Bunn, Dustin Stephenson and Jaxon Peebles each scored two runs and Starr, Russell, Maner and McCarley each scored once.
Stephenson had two doubles and McCarley and Lane Anders hit one double each; Russell and Bunn each had a single.
Maner, Russell and Starr worked two innings each to combine for the pitching victory.
Athens National 12, Hartselle American 8
Hartselle American suffered its first loss of the tournament Saturday, falling to the losers' bracket after dropping its game to Athens National.
Cook finished with a run scored, a single and a double and Segars scored two runs and singled. Pettey hit a double and Steele singled. Klett, Hansard, Sivley and Connor Pheny each scored a run.
Hansard and Cook each pitched two innings and Vest, Steele and Dakota Parker each worked one.
Hartselle National 10, Morgan National East 5
Starr and Brown each had two singles and two runs scored to help lead Hartselle National to a tournament-opening victory Friday evening. Russell scored two runs and singled and Chandler Padgett scored a run and singled twice. Stephenson scored a run, singled and doubled while Anders and Bullard each singled and scored a run. Bunn hit a double and McCarley had a single.
Maner, Bullard and Anders each pitched two innings and Russell pitched one.
Hartselle American 2, Morgan Central 0
Hartselle American was out hit 3-1 by Morgan Central but ended up on top where it counted, opening its tournament with a victory Friday.
Vest had the only single for Hartselle American and Parker and Sivley scored the runs. Klett worked all six innings to pick up the shutout victory.
