Hartselle School Board approved supplements for three elementary school teachers at a regular monthly meeting Monday night but not before questioning Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed about the need.
Dr. Reed recommended the supplements for teachers who will serve as administrative assistants to principals at Crestline, F. E. Burleson and Barkley Bridge Elementary Schools.
When questioned by board members about their duties and authority, he said they would prepare reports and handle other non-supervisory responsibilities, with most of the work occurring after school hours. As to the need, he said the principals are bogged down in paperwork and need help.
Reed agreed to have a job description for the supplement prepared at the board's request.
In another matter, the board approved a revised policy that prohibits the unauthorized use of school-owned facilities by outside groups or organizations where an admission or other moneymaking activity is involved. Such a use would have to be approved by the board.
"Did something happen to give rise to this?" questioned board member Jeff Gray.
"No," said Reed. "I discussed it with our attorney. It will give the schools more control over the use of their facilities."
The board also approved a 25-cent increase in the price of lunches at Hartselle High School
for the 2007-08 school year. The price last year was $1.75.
Board members Cathy White Goodwin and Dr. Andy Dukes were recognized for completing level one and level three continuing education requirements of the Alabama School Board Academy.
