No burn order lifted for Morgan County

The no burn order in Morgan County and North Alabama has been downgraded to a fire alert, according to the Alabama Forestry Commission.
Officials with the Alabama Forestry Commission said the rain the area has received in the past few days has been enough to reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfire. The rain, combined with lower temperatures, has provided enough moisture on the ground to justify lifting the order.
A fire alert means the commission will continue to restrict the issuance of permits for outdoor burning though trash and debris may be burned with caution. Any fire of more than a quarter acre requires a permit.
The fire alert for south Alabama has been lifted entirely.
The commission said because the state is still experiencing abnormally dry weather and all safety precautions should be used when doing any type of burning. If moisture levels drop and temperatures rise, the no burn order could be reinstated.
