Aug. 2, 1957-Dr. Otis Kirby, superintendent of the Methodist Decatur district, delivered the first sermon of the Hartselle Camp Meeting last night. Food preparation is being supervised by Mrs. D. L. Grizzard who says she has meals that are "good and at a reasonable price."
Aug. 2, 1957-James T. Adamson of Eva 1 was injured yesterday when the truck he was driving overturned on Highway 31 due to a tire blowout. Due to massive bleeding caused when a major artery was cut, Mr. Adamson would have died had it not been for a Florence doctor, who declined to give his name, who knew what to do in this situation.
Aug. 2, 1957-A member of the first graduating class of MCHS, Dr. Charles Wesley Price, passed away yesterday at his home in Daytona, Fla. Dr. Price was one of the nation's leading experts in the field of psychiatric medicine.
Aug. 3, 1957-J. L. Hopper has begun a singing school at Shiloh church east of Hartselle. He has about 50 pupils.
Aug. 4, 1957-A Birmingham teen, Billy Joe Brock, is in the Morgan County jail, charged with stealing John Stephenson's 1956 Chevy here in Hartselle last Saturday afternoon.
Aug. 5, 1957-Two more delinquent teens, one a resident of Hartselle 3, are locked up in the Morgan County jail, being accused of several break-ins following their escape from reform school. Vinson's Standard Service Station on Highway 31 north of here was one of the businesses unlawfully entered. Cigarettes and candy were the main objects of interest for the young hoodlums.
Aug. 6, 1957-Hartselle moviegoers were saddened today to learn of the death of Oliver Hardy, the rotund half of the movie comedy team of Laurel and Hardy. Mr. Hardy had been in a critical condition for many months.
Aug. 7, 1957-Hartselle City Councilman Orville Tanner is urging the erection of street markers. Mayor John Burleson accepts that these signs are needed but says that on account of confusion in street names it would be advisable to deal with this problem first.
Aug. 8, 1957-Wade Hall, Hartselle 3 resident and a Chemstrand employee, fractured his left leg in a plant accident late this afternoon. The mishap occurred when a bale of fiber tumbled off a fork-lift.
