Dixie season over: Debs finish with 2-2 record at World Series

MARIANNA, Fla. – Hartselle's Alabama champion Debs (16-18) lost to North Carolina by a score of 3-0 Monday night and were eliminated from the Dixie Softball World Series in Marianna, Fla.
The winners grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo home run and added two more runs in the second inning on the strength of three hits.
Hartselle managed only three hits in the contest.
A 2-2 record enabled the Hartselle team to finish fifth among 10 state championship teams in the competition.
Alabama (Hartselle) 16, Virginia 0
Hartselle scored 10 runs in the second inning and went on to pound Virginia 16-0 in a losers' bracket game Sunday night.
Pitching duties were shared by Kayla Orr, Jessica Andrews and Ashley Womack. They allowed only two hits.
Hartselle pounded out 17 hits. Kayla Orr led the way with a triple, double and single. Mary Virginia Reeves had an inside-the-park home run and a double, Chandler Orr had a triple and double, Whitley Collins had three singles, Andrews had a pair of doubles, Breanna Segars and Haley Miller each had a pair of singles, Lauren Drake tripled and Womack singled.
Alabama (Hartselle) 8, Mississippi 7
Hartselle won the game in the top of the seventh inning by scoring five unanswered runs, after trailing 7-3. Kelli Montgomery got the rally started by opening the seventh with a double. Segars drew a walk and Kayla Orr cleared the bases with a triple. Kristy Pevahouse also had a single and the go-ahead run came home on a sacrifice fly.
Segars pitched the last inning in relief and was credited with the win. She struck out two of the three batters she faced.
Segars led the winners at the plate with a pair of doubles and a single. Kayla Orr had a triple and double, Andrews had three singles, Reeves had a double and single, Montgomery had a double and Pevahouse, Collins and Miller each singled.
South Carolina 3, Alabama (Hartselle) 1
South Carolina scored two runs in the sixth inning to claim the win after both teams battled through five innings deadlocked at a run apiece. The loss dropped Hartselle into the losers' bracket.
Pevahouse, Kayla Orr and Miller each singled for Hartselle's only hits.
