FHS's Wilemon named to Marion Co. Hall of Fame

Falkville High School teacher/coach Karen Wilemon was recently inducted as a member of the Marion County Sports Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony was held at Bevill State Community College's Business and Community Center in Hamilton.
Wilemon coaches volleyball and helps her husband, Keith, coach cross country track and track and field teams. She also teaches biology and chemistry.
This is Wilemon's first year coaching the varsity volleyball team at Falkville. During the three years she has worked with cross country track, her teams have won county and sectional honors and finished second in Class 1A-4A one year.
In 2007, the track and field team she helped coach won the boys 1A-4A state championship in both indoor and outdoor competition.
The girls team was the runner-up. The girls team also won a state championship in 2001.
"It came as a complete surprise. Wilemon said. "I never dreamed of being recognized in that way. It's a great honor and I'm indebted to all of the wonderful kids with whom I've had the opportunity to coach."
Wilemon is a 1983 graduate of Marion County High School where she excelled in both academics and athletics.
As a member of the girls basketball team for six years, she was a standout defensive player and free throw shooter. She was named to all-area and all-conference teams.
She was salutatorian of her graduating class, a member and majorette of the school band for four years was elected "Miss MCHS."
After her graduation, she attended Brewer Community College for two years and earned her bachelor's degree in secondary education from Auburn University.
She was a Dean's List honoree at both schools.
She and her husband joined the Falkville High faculty in 1989. They have two sons, Jace and Cade.
