Sept 13, 1957-Playing in the rain throughout the contest, the MCHS Tigers defeated the Falkville Blue Devils by a 13-0 score here tonight. Scoring TDs for the home team were Jimmy Mayfield, a right halfback, and Willard Lipsey, LHB. Fullback David McElroy bucked the Falkville line for the extra point following the second TD.
Sept 13, 1957-Three Hartselle area men were arrested on VPL charges tonight by Morgan County sheriff's deputies. Liquor seized included both commercially produced beverage alcohol as well as homebrew.
Sept 14, 1957-A new movie starring the popular movie actor Ronald Reagan was part of a double feature at Decatur's Princess Theatre today. Doris Day stars with Reagan in the sports drama, "The Winning Team."
Sept 15 1957-More jobs for 200 Morgan County workers are now assured. Fruehauf Trailer Co. will soon begin building a $3 million aluminum extrusion plant in Decatur and manufacturing operations should begin next July.
Sept 16, 1957-A bizarre robbery occurred in Decatur last night. Robert Woodliff, who runs a concessions stand for Interstate Shows, a carnival now in Hartselle, robbed his roommate of $500 at the Lyons Hotel. Harvey Moore, the supposed "friend" of Woodliff, is blind.
Sept 16, 1957-Morgan County rural schools began their annual "cotton picking break" today. Schools where students were dismissed to help in cotton harvesting were Cotaco, Falkville, Massey, Lacey's Spring, Trinity, Plainview, Neel, Priceville, Danville, Somerville, Eva, Ryan, and Union Hill. Classes will resume on October 7.
Sept 17, 1957-Hartselle author William Bradford Huie has been fined $750 by a Suwanne County, Florida, judge. Mr. Huie's "offense" was trying to assist with the defense of Ruby McCollum, a mentally incompetent woman, who probably would have been executed had it not been for the Hartselle writer's intervention.
Sept 18, 1957-Rev. Warren Hamby has been appointed to serve as minister of the Hartselle Methodist Church for another year. Former Hartselle minister Rev. Roy Hewlett will preach at Mount Tabor.
Sept 19, 1957-A new USDA survey held bad news for Alabama farmers. They have the lowest standard of living of farmers in any other state except for those in Mississippi. Many Alabama farm homes lack electricity, have no telephones, and must rely on horses and mules for farm work.
