On a scale of one to 10, Hartselle's Depot Days Festival on Saturday rated a 10 and then some, according to Susan Hines, president of Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce.
A sunny day with a hint of fall in the air also contributed to its success.
"It was a great success on all accounts, from early morning until way into the night," she said. "Although we have no way of knowing exactly how many people we had in town, I've had several people tell me it was the biggest Depot Days crowd we've ever had."
Hines said the Hartselle Enquirer entertainment tent was filled to its 200-seat capacity for Dan Meyers' sword swallowing event at 7:30 p.m. and an even larger crowd was on hand for the Natchez Trace Concert and street dance that followed.
"The street dance was something we brought back to the entertainment lineup after an absence of several years and it far exceeded our expectations," she added. "We'll definitely keep it in mind as a feature attraction next year."
Hines said the antique car, truck and motorcycle show attracted a record number of entries – more than 300 – and the Alabama Army National Guard Band's concert proved to be a very popular event.
Hines said food vendors and crafts exhibitors reported doing very well and most indicated they will be back next year. The Morgan County Cattlemen's Association grilled and sold 1,700 steak sandwiches from 10: a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
"All of the feedback I've had has been very positive," she said. "It was just an ideal day for the entire family to get out of the house and go have some fun."
