Funeral for Milton Manor Aldridge, 85, of Decatur was Saturday, Sept. 15, at Friendship Baptist Church in Danville with Bro. Dan Compton officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Aldridge died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at his residence. He was born August 5, 1922, in Morgan County to William Walter Aldridge and Mabel Olive McCulley Aldridge. He was a medic in the U.S. Army/Air Force during World War II and participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy. After the war, he graduated from Florence State Teachers College and taught school for several years at Massey School. In 1946, he married Mary Ilva Dutton, his wife of 41 years, who passed away in 1987. In 1952, Mr. Aldridge moved to Decatur and went to work for Chemstrand Corp. where he retired in 1982. He and his brother Harold founded and co-owned AAA Fiberglass. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and loved gardening, nature and traveling with his family. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ola Aldridge Johnson of Decatur and two brothers, Wilfred H. Aldridge of Malvern, Ark. and Harold H. Aldridge of the Liberty community.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Aldridge of Decatur; two daughters, Rosemary Aldridge Richardson and husband Dr. Thomas E. Richardson of Decatur and Laura Aldridge Hash and husband Dr. Robert L. Hash of Huntsville; two stepsons, John A. Atchley and wife Susie and Steve W. Atchley and wife Joyce, all of Danville; two brothers, Burch H. Aldridge and wife Gertrude of Slidel, La. and James W. Aldridge and wife Peggy of Florence; a sister Hilda Aldridge Barnette and husband J. Olen of Decatur; two grandsons, Joseph T., Richardson and John M. Richardson, both of Decatur, two granddaughters, Mary Grace Hash and Annalee O. Hash, both of Huntsville; two step-granddaughters, Elizabeth S. Larimer and Tessa M. Atchley of Danville; a step-grandson, Brad F. Atchley of Danville; 10 nephews, 13 nieces and numerous great-nephews, great-nieces and other kin.
Pallbearers were Doyle Aldridge, Gary Aldridge, Philip Aldridge, Walt Aldridge Steve Barnette and Barry Dutton.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Aldridge, John Steven Bryant, Chris Dutton, Robert Pope and J. Patrick Lamb.
