After suffering its first loss of the season at home against Fultondale, the Falkville Blue Devils went back on the road against another region foe, the Cold Springs Eagles. Falkville bounced back with a 26-7 victory to improve to 3-1 overall.
The first quarter was slow, with both teams moving the ball, but neither team was able to find the end zone. Cold Springs intercepted a pass at its own 3-yard line, but was unable to drive down the field, punting to the Devils. The Devils were stagnant as well, turning the ball back over on downs to end the first quarter.
Cold Springs started out with possession but fumbled on its 35-yard line, putting the Devil's in position to score. Passing was the name of the game in the second quarter, with the majority of Falkville's ball movement coming from passes to seniors Steven Lindsey and Brandon Clark.
Quarterback Jonathan McNatt scored Falkville's first points on a 2-yard run. The extra point failed, putting Falkville up 6-0. On the Eagles' next drive, they fumbled again on the 45. Falkville pressed back down the field, scoring again on a 3-yard pass to Lindsey. The extra point again failed, but the Devils moved ahead to 12-0 at halftime.
On Cold Springs' first drive of the second half, quarterback T.J. Aby charged into the end zone on a 5-yard run. The extra point attempt was good, putting the Eagles back within striking distance, 12-7. Falkville's offense couldn't break through the Cold Springs line and punted the ball away a second time, but Cold Springs quickly turned it back over at the end of the third quarter.
The strongest part of the fourth quarter for Falkville was the ground game, with Dustin Jump rushing for 91 yards in the last quarter alone. He drove the ball down the field, setting McNatt up for another 2-yard run into the end zone. The two-point conversion was good, sending the Devils to 20-7.
The Eagles' fought back, but the Falkville defense proved overwhelming and they were unable to score again. Falkville put more points on the board with Dustin Jump scoring on a 47-yard run. The extra point attempt failed, putting the score at 26-7, where it stayed for the remainder of the game.
Falkville will host the Vinemont Eagles this Friday at 7 p.m.
