Sept. 27, 1957-MCHS football fans were in a good mood this morning. Their Tigers took a convincing 21-0 over Boaz there last night. Standouts for the locals included Tommy Ed Roberts, David Buckalew, David McElroy, Jimmy Mayfield, Gary Vest, Don Boster, Charles Howell, and Willard Lipsey.
Sept. 27, 1957-Local Auburn football fans will be able to relive some of the great moments from last season thanks to a new series on ETV. Each Friday, starting tonight, one of the major games will be screened. The featured contest will involve the team the Tigers will be playing the next day.
Sept. 28, 1957-Tide fans were disappointed tonight when their team was beaten 28-0 by LSU in Baton Rouge. The main nemesis for the Crimsons was halfback Billy Cannon who scored two of the victors' TDs and amassed more yardage than all of the other runners combined.
Sept. 29, 1957-Second Lt. Ralph N. Pattillo has been awarded the wings of an Air Force pilot. This distinction marked the end of a complete year of concentrated training and flying instruction. Lt. Pattillo is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Pattillo who live at 301 East Main Street.
Sept. 30, 1957-Hartselle cattleman V. A. White has acquired a registered Guernsey bull ("Cotaco Sonsie's Echo") from H. F. Bailey of Somerville.
Oct. 1, 1957-The Hartselle representative to the state legislature, attorney Bob Gilchrist, spoke to the local Kiwanis Club tonight.
Oct. 1, 1957-The City of Decatur tonight offered to purchase the entire Joe Wheeler Electric Co-op system. The co-op currently furnishes power to all parts of Morgan and Lawrence counties outside of Hartselle and Decatur. It is extremely unlikely that this offer will be accepted.
Oct. 2, 1957-An in-service training program for teachers is being held today and tomorrow at the Morgan County Training School.
Oct. 2, 1957-Luther Roberts will head the retail division of this year's Morgan County United Fund campaign. Guy Roberts, chairman of the board of revenue and control, will head up the county governmental division.
Oct. 3, 1957-Alabamians pay less taxes than residents of most other states, according to a recent survey. The specific ranking was 40th among the 48 states. Per capita taxes in this state amounted to $71 per year.
