October 11, 1957-The MCHS Tigers won another thrilling game tonight, beating the Cullman Bearcats on their home field by a score of 14-13. What gave the locals the winning edge was Tommy Ed Roberts' block of a Cullman PAT attempt late in the fourth quarter. Others key players for the Tigers were Jimmy Mayfield, Buddy Roberts, David McElroy, and Gary Vest.
Oct. 12, 1957-Don Lee, Morgan County FFA president, is en route to Kansas City to participate in the group's national convention. Don is an inspiration to all of those with whom he comes in contact because, despite the loss of his left hand in a mowing accident seven years ago, he still works both hard and effectively on his family's farm. Don is an all-round quality guy and is highly regarded in his school, community, and church.
Oct. 13, 1957-The Morgan County Singing Convention was in session at Cedar Creek church today. There were many prominent singers and composers in attendance, including O. A. Parris and M. H. Woodard.
Oct. 14, 1957-A woman who resides on Danville 1 confessed to numerous VPL violations today after Morgan County sheriff's deputies found about 65 gallons of whiskey stored in a storm shelter near her home. The whiskey came from three adjacent stills which had the capacity of producing 600-800 gallons of homebrew per day.
Oct. 15, 1957-The squirrel season for northern Alabama opened today. The day hunt at the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge coincides with the state squirrel season but will only last until Oct. 21. A total of nine hundred free hunting permits will be distributed on a first-come, first-served allocation plan. In addition to grey squirrels hunters may also take aim at rabbits, foxes, coons, possums, and crows. Game excluded are fox squirrels and doves.
Oct. 16, 1957-Clyde O. Preuitt, 75, the Danville 1 farmer who was critically injured in an auto accident near his home ten days ago, passed away this morning at Decatur General Hospital.
Oct. 17, 1957-Special guests at tomorrow night's MCHS-Moulton football game will be the dads of the players. The probable starting lineup for the Tigers is as follows: ends, David Buckelew and Jerry Atkins; tackles, Tom Ed Roberts and Don Summerford; guards, Sherman Burch and Armand Hammer; center, Billy Don Aldridge; quarterback, Charles Howell; halfbacks, Jimmy Mayfield and Willard Lipsey; and fullback, David McElroy.
