Calhoun offers scholarships
By Staff
Calhoun Community College is now accepting applications for scholarships for students majoring or planning to major in Computer Information Systems, Math, Pre-Engineering, Advanced Technology (Aerospace Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology, Machine Tool Technology, Process Technology, Design Drafting, Instrumentation and Air Conditioning/Refrigeration) this spring. Incoming students (freshmen, transfer, re-admission) for the 2008 spring semester, as well as current students, may apply for the scholarships.
The Computer Science, Mathematics and Technology (CMT) Academic Rewards Program is directed at capable, but financially disadvantaged students with special emphasis on recruiting students from underrepresented groups such as female, minorities, or persons with disabilities.
The program will "reward" those students who do well academically through financial awards and participation in enhanced, discipline-specific, support services.
Funding for the scholarships is provided through a $400,000, four-year grant from the National Science Foundation. The scholarship program, which is now in its fourth year, is designed to increase the number of well-prepared graduates in technology, computer specialties and mathematics by offering the annual scholarships and a variety of support activities.
To be eligible for the scholarships, students must meet the following criteria:
Application deadline is Nov. 16. Students selected to receive scholarships will be notified prior to the beginning of spring semester classes.
