Friday night was homecoming at Burl Vest Stadium, and everything looked just right, especially the Blue Devil football team. They scored their first home win of the season against the Vincent Yellow Jackets, 27-14, which made the homecoming win even sweeter to the Devils, who are undefeated on the road.
The Blue Devils held the ball for most of the first quarter, fumbling at the 22-yard line. The Yellow Jackets recovered, but were forced to punt back to the Devils. Falkville kept the ball the rest of the first, punting to Vincent but recovering the ball after it was fumbled on the return.
Vincent began the second quarter with the ball, but promptly fumbled on the 47. Falkville's Dustin Jump then ran 47 yards into the end zone on the Blue Devils' first play of the second quarter. The extra-point attempt failed, but put Falkville up 6-0.
Vincent's Tavoris Threatt returned the Falkville kick 41 yards and set the Yellow Jackets up to score, until Jonathan McNatt intercepted a pass at the Falkville 17. Falkville moved up the field, culminating in a 10-yard touchdown run by Jump. The two-point conversion attempt was good, moving the Blue Devils up 14-0 at halftime.
Vincent scored on a 3-yard run by Corey DeLoach to open the third quarter. The two-point attempt was good, and it brought Vincent within striking distance, 14-8.
The Blue Devils answered right back with a touchdown by Steven Lindsey on a 38-yard punt return. The two-point attempt failed, but Falkville pulled even further away, 20-8.
Later, Lindsey scored yet again, this time in the form of a 26-yard fumble return. Aaron Lee's kick was good and Falkville widened the gap, 27-8.
Vincent scored once more at the very end of the fourth quarter, with DeLoach running in again, this time from 4 yards out. The kick after failed, bringing the score to 27-14.
The majority of Falkville's ball movement was on the ground, with junior Dustin Jump rushing 128 yards on 14 attempts and two touchdowns.
"I think this was one of our best games of the year, personally… it was a big region game and it really gave us a confidence boost," Jump said.
Another player who found the end zone twice was senior Steven Lindsey, in addition to his 53 yards receiving on eight receptions.
Falkville will host Cleveland Friday at 7 p.m.
