State denies senior center grant

Hartselle won’t be receiving money from the state for expansion of its senior center.
The city had applied for a $250,000 grant to add on to its current senior center at Sparkman Civic Center. The city learned last week it won’t be receiving the Community Development Block Grant.
Tankersley said the city will continue to use the Civic Center for senior activities. That building has some advantages, he said.
The county had pledged $25,000 towards the project which would have added on a separate meeting space for the seniors.
