A memorial service for Mildred Faye Johnson, 84, of Somerville was Monday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Decatur with the Revs. Jimmy Smith and Martin Steelman officiating and Twickenham Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Johnson died Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at Parkway Medical Center in Decatur. She was a member of Oak Forest Baptist Church in Somerville and was retired from St. Joseph Hospital in Pontiac, Mich. as a nursing technician for 34 years. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, C.W. Coen, a brother, Sidney McGhee, Louise Mabrey, Inez Slayton, Edith Stephenson and Evelyn Alexander.
He is survived by her husband, Laverne Johnson; a son, Sherman Lemmond and wife Marvinell; two daughters, Elizabeth Lowe and husband Charlie and Janet Sue Smith and husband Gary; three grandsons, Jerry Lemmond, Jeffery Lowe, and Steve Lemmond; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.
