Artesian well provides needed relief on drought-stricken farm
Clif Knight, Hartselle Enquirer
Billy Melson of Danville was hoping to find 25 or 30 feet of water in a well he was having drilled on his farm six weeks ago. He found a lot more…a gusher…an artesian well that today is producing a free-flowing, one-half gallon per minute stream.
The free water is being piped down grade to a livestock watering trough and holding pond, which he built to water his 22 head of cattle.
Melson said his stock pond was almost dry and he was purchasing water from the East Lawrence-West Morgan County Water Authority to water his cattle when he decided to drill his well.
Melson gives part of the credit for his artesian well to Rassie Wallace, a retired Danville cattle farmer and a well-respected well witcher.
