Hartselle Medical Center has been sold to Capella Healthcare Inc.
HMC was sold to the Franklin, Tenn.-based company as part of a $315 million transaction that also includes Parkway Medical Center in Decatur, Woodland Medical Center in Cullman and Jacksonville Medical Center. Four others hospitals located outside Alabama are also included in the deal between Capella and HMC’s current owner, Community Health Systems.
The deal is expected to be finalized in January.
Founded in 2005, Capella is a privately held, for-profit company. According to company officials, it specializes in “non-urban, general acute care hospitals operated in partnership with communities that are growing or have service needs that are currently not being met.”
Capella currently owns six other medical facilities: Capital Medical Center in Olympia, Wash., Grandview Medical Center in Jasper, Tenn.; River Park Hospital and Middle Tennessee Surgical Care at River Park in McMinnville, Tenn.; Southwestern Medical Center in Lawton, Ok; and Muskogee Regional Medical Center in Muskogee, Ok.
Capella Healthcare said all HMC employees would be retained at their current rate of pay with seniority and benefits honored. Capella representatives will be meeting with employees in the coming weeks to discuss benefit options.
Capella said the hospital would continue to accept the same insurance plans and managed care contracts. The name of the hospital is not expected to change.
