Hartselle wrestlers solid in tourney

HUNTSVILLE - Ethan Hamilton gave Hartselle’s wrestling team its only individual title after he won the 189-pound weight class Saturday in the 28th annual Huntsville Hospital Invitational at Huntsville High School.
The meet, featuring 14 teams, was won by Bradley Central. Scottsboro was second, followed by Huntsville and Bob Jones.
Bradley Central had six wrestlers pick up weight class titles as the Bears dominated the tournament: Ethan Hames (103), Eddie Stiles (125), David Graham (135), Chris Aquilar (140), Dean Paulo (145) and Matt Watson (160).
Bradley Central had wrestlers in the finals of seven of the 14 weight classes.
Hamilton beat Scottsboro’s Billy Womack 11-1 to win the weight class title.
The Tigers’ Kyle Davis beat Bob Jones’ Ben Jackson 10-7 to claim third place in the 135-pound weight class.
Davis finished the tournament with a 4-1 record before being put out in the consolation championship.
Barrett Eubanks went 2-2 in the tournament. He was eliminated with a loss in the 171-pound consolation bracket.
Cody Anders went 1-2 in the tournament and was one of four Hartselle wrestlers to advance to the second day of the event.
Prattville’s John Hayden Countryman was named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler after he pinned Arab’s Chris Moody in the 152-pound finals.
Hartselle will compete in the Southside Classic this weekend in Gadsden.
