Show was a great success
If you didn’t see the recent College Street Players’ production of “Steel Magnolias,” you missed the event of the year. Performed at the Hartselle Fine Arts Center, the actors did exactly as directed and gave eight performances of this beloved drama to sell-out audiences. Four school performances as well as shows for the general public were all sold out. Almost 1500 theatergoers viewed the production, which were followed by standing ovations after each performance. We could have sold out another eight shows but the cast had to return to their regular jobs. They gave of their time for rehearsals and show times and the audiences welcomed them warmly.
I had the pleasure of directing these talented artists and they displayed a professionalism that would be welcomed on any stage at anytime, anywhere. Thanks ladies and the technical crew for your help in making this the most successful performance in the history of College Street Players.
If you have not visited our center, please come to the next production. You will be amazed at the progress that has been made in the renovation process. The auditorium doesn’t look like it did this time last year. The balcony was used for the first time and the additional seating really came in handy, and without it many people would have been turned away at the door. It is going to be a show place as other phases of construction are completed. Many things are needed such as additional lighting, stage curtains including stage blacks, additional sound equipment and chairs for seating along with many other items. If you are interested in contributing to this project just get in touch with us. We will take your contribution and put reach dollar to work in our continuing renovation process.
A special thanks to the board of education, the administration and each teacher that took the time to arrange an out-of-classroom experience at each school. Their efforts permitted the students to be exposed to live theatre and the arts available to them. They can now be exposed to these programs without having to drive to other cities to participate. Hats off to all of the students and instructors that attended. They displayed amazing attention, manners and respect to those on stage. Our city should be appreciative to those instructors that are teaching our young people how to respect others. Often we only hear about the bad things and the good things go unmentioned.
Again thanks for all the support from the community and we look forward to seeing you at a future production.

More cars should be impounded
Editor:
I am writing in reference to the new ordinance about towing vehicles driven by unlicensed operators.
I don’t know any auto insurance company that offers coverage to unlicensed drivers. Alabama laws were enacted to protect law-abiding citizens. The proposed towing ordinance fails to uphold the laws when an unlicensed, uninsured driver is able to turn over the vehicle to a licensed driver in the stopped vehicle.
If there is a licensed driver in the auto, they should be driving not riding. Any vehicle operated by an uninsured or unlicensed driver should be impounded. No exceptions. Unlicensed drivers are uninsured. There is no protection for law-abiding drivers with this proposal.
