County Commission approves vehicle impoundment resolution

The impoundment of motor vehicles in Morgan County for violations related to invalid drivers licenses and lack of liability insurance moved a step closer to reality on Tuesday at a regular meeting of the Morgan County Commission.
The commissioners unanimously passed a resolution encouraging the Alabama County Commissioners Association (ACCA) and the Morgan County legislative delegation to support such an impoundment law in the next regular session of the state legislature.
If passed, the law would empower a sheriff’s deputy to impound a motor vehicle on the spot if the driver was unable to show a valid drivers license and/or proof of liability insurance coverage as required by state law.
District I Commissioner Jeff Clark, who is a member of the ACCA board of directors, requested the resolution to be put on the agenda after throwing it out for discussion at an ACCAboard meeting in Auburn earlier this month.
