F.L. ‘Leon’ Dawson

Funeral for F.L. “Leon” Dawson, 83, of Hartselle was Saturday, Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. at East Highland Baptist Church with the Revs. Walter Blackmon and Junior Hill officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Burningtree Memorial Gardens with U.S. Navy honors.
Mr. Dawson died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Huntsville Hospital. He was a member of East Highland Baptist Church, served for 50 years in pastoral ministry and was guidance counselor at Danville High School for more than 20 years. He was an active member of the Morgan County Baptist Association and the Campers on Mission. He volunteered for a number of Christian organizations including The Caring Place. He served two terms in the U.S. Navy. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was respected by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Sammy Shippey, Glendene Elliott and Mildred Cagle.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Weinman Dawson of Hartselle; a son, Dennis Dawson and wife Teresa of Decatur; a daughter, Wanda Dawson Thompson and husband Glenn of Hartselle; six grandchildren, Peter Dawson and wife Dawn, Matthew Dawson, Beth Anne Dawson, Lea Poole and husband Steven, Ashley Thompson and Cline Thompson; and three great-grandchildren, Chandler Dawson, Bradley Poole and Aiden Poole.
Pallbearers were Matthew Dawson, Peter Dawson, Cline Thompson, Roy Cagle, Donnell Brown and Gordon Cagle.
Honorary pallbearers were Austelle Bowling, Vester Bennefield, and Usery Harris.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Gideons, The Caring Place or East Highland Baptist Church.
