The story of the Christmas Ninja

There comes a time every holiday season when I decide to draw a line.
The first time came this year when I announced that, no matter what the need or item sought, I would no longer go to Wal-Mart until after Dec. 25.
The second came when I announced I would have the house decorated by Dec. 1 or just not bother with the entire thing.
The third came this last weekend, when I told Greg that I would be done with my Christmas shopping no matter what. I carved out some time Sunday afternoon to finish this task. If I didn’t get something bought during this time, well, too bad.
Thankfully, I didn’t have too much left to purchase. It was just the small things, a picture frame here, a shirt there, that I needed.
I announced my plans and gave Greg an option. He could stay home and keep the baby or he could go shopping with me. He opted for the easier of the two, figuring a dirty diaper was easier to manage than the mall at Christmas.
Just as I was leaving, Greg commented on both my intensity and my attire.
And it was this mindset that carried me through. I blew through the first store in record time, finding everything I needed and even making my way through a short line.
I then headed to the mall, where I needed one – yes, one – thing. Of course there was no parking near the store where I was going, so I was forced to walk through most of the mall to get to my destination. One of the young men who worked at a kiosk selling hand cream tried to stop me as I walked by.
I don’t think he spoke English. If he did, I’m sure he would have thought I had lost my mind.
Christmas Ninja made it through the mall. I then went to the baby store and quickly got what I needed. Then, on to the craft store for that pink and green polka dot paper I had been looking for. I blew through there in record time. Next, I went to the sporting goods store where I picked up a shirt for my grandfather-in-law.
I was done. Christmas Ninja had set out to accomplish a task and she had succeeded. Flush with success, I went home, carried all the packages inside and showed them to Greg.
He was impressed.
