Tiger seniors honored

Hartselle’s student-athletes from the school’s fall teams were honored Monday night at a special banquet at First Baptist Church.
In addition to recognizing student-athletes from four teams, several service and recognition awards were presented during the banquet.
Harry Puckett was inducted into the Hartselle football Hall of Famed during the banquet.
Puckett played for Morgan County High School from 1942-45 and following a stint in the service, he graduated from the school in 1947.
The Tigers’ halfback later went on to play college football at Milligan College in Johnson City, Tenn.
Puckett’s football career ended after a head injury.
Reggie Corum was presented with the Richard Grammer Award, an honor named for the former Hartselle and University of Alabama player who died in a boating accident just after playing in the 1966 Liberty Bowl.
Corum was honored for his years of service in the Hartselle Athletic Booster Club.
Corum has been involved with the Hartselle booster club since he was a student-athlete.
Hartselle’s senior football players who were honored at the banquet were Wesley Clemmons, Tony Weaver, Troy Coleman, Montrell Murphy, Tyler Bennich, Brad Borden, Dane Burgess, Michael Reed, Zach Pearce, Micah Laughmiller, Caleb Murphy, Kenneth Simmons, Kramer Southern, Tyler Watson, Nic Billings and Caleb Blackmon.
The Hartselle volleyball team finished with a 43-24 record after reaching the state tournament for the second straight season.
The Lady Tigers’ seniors who were honored Monday were Shauna Clemons, Kaitlyn Faulkner, Dana Lacey, Candice Light and Emily Roden.
Dana Lacey and Shauna Clemmons were voted team captains by the players.
Lacey was also honored for leading the team in serving with 119 aces and 109 blocks.
Chandler Orr led the Lady Tigers with 538 kills, while Cerra Little was tops with 1,049 assists.
Clemmons was the team’s top defensive player with 429 digs.
Cheerleaders recognized were Madison Cain, Alex Howell, Rachel Puckett, Jodie Redmond, Lindsay Wallace, Briana Womack, Chelsea Woodruff, Olivia Adams, Crystalynn Beard, Taylor Cain, Nina Halbrooks, Shelley Harvel, Allie Kimbrell, Jessica Owens, Candace Patterson, Julie Redmond and Anna Reeves.
Also, Hugheston Slate was honored for his service as the school’s mascot, Champ. He is currently the mascot for the Huntsville Havoc minor league hockey team.
Kimbrell and Adams were also honored for having the squad’s top grade point average. Both are ranked seventh in their class with 4.124 averages.
The swimming team recently completed its season with six athletes advancing to the state meet in Auburn.
Matt Ramey finished second in the state in 1-meter diving, while Jessica Horton was 15th in the 50 freestyle.
Also competing at the state meet were Sarah Roark, Jordan Bruner, Katie Kohlenberg and Taylor Bean.
Clay Austiell and Brandon Long just missed qualifying for spots in the state meet.
