Tigers battle in Gadsden

Hartselle’s Ethan Hamilton won four matches Saturday in the Southside Classic Dual Tournament at Southside High School in Gadsden.
The Tigers’ Kyle Davis and Zack Hill both went 3-1 in the tournament that featured teams from Gadsden, Lincoln County, Bob Jones, Sparkman, Fort Payne, Saks, Southside and Hartselle.
Hartselle finished 1-3 in the team standings. Southside won the team competition, followed by Fort Payne, Saks and Bob Jones.
Hamilton went undefeated at 189, while Davis and Hill wrestled at 135 and 145 respectively. All three are juniors.
Freshman Cody Anders was the Tigers’ only other wrestler to finish the tournament with a winning record. Sophomores David Filiatrault and Garrett Baldwin, and eighth grader Daniel Nicholson all finished 2-2.
Allen Durham, a freshman, also picked up a win for Hartselle.
Hartselle’s Devin Malone, Luke Chaffee and Drew Butler all wrestled in exhibition matches in the tournament.
Hartselle will wrestle at Athens this afternoon. The Tigers will host the Tiger Duals Saturday.
