A state grant will help put video cameras in Hartselle’s police cars.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs will oversee the grant. The funds come from the Justice Department.
According to Police Chief Ron Puckett, the city currently has two operable cameras in police cars. The grant will be used to purchase more cameras.
The exact number will depend on which system the departments chooses, Puckett said.
Morgan County’s Sheriff Department and Priceville Police Department also received money from ADECA.
The county will receive $25,000 to purchase digital cameras. Priceville will receive $24,715 to upgrade existing equipment.
Hartselle’s City Council approved the grant at a special meeting held Tuesday. The meeting takes the place of next week’s regularly scheduled meeting, which falls on Christmas day.
