Wallace State offers commuity classes
By Staff
Wallace State Community College in Hanceville will offer a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course beginning in January for individuals interested in entering this rapidly growing field.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of CNAs is expected to increase 28 percent over the next 10 years.
The eyes and ears of the nursing group, CNAs groom, bathe, feed, transport and observe patients. Because they often spend more time directly with patients than any other member of the healthcare team, CNAs may be the first to spot changes in a patient’s skin, respiration, and vital signs, and the first to report those changes.
An overview of the four-month program, including information on how to become a CNA, specific job responsibilities, where to find employment, and salary information will be provided during an orientation on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 5 p.m. on the second floor of the James C. Bailey Center on campus. The orientation session is free and open to everyone.
The course will be comprised of classes, labs and clinical experiences, concluding with graduation on April 29. Classes and labs will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 15 through April 3, from 5 p.m. until 8:45 p.m. Clinical experiences will be scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 8 through April 24, from 5 p.m. until 9:20 p.m.
The cost of the course is $630 plus $15 for insurance.
