Funeral for Rev. A. W. Landis, 82, of Hartselle, formerly of Dongola, Ill., was Tuesday Jan. 8, at 11 a.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro with the Revs. Jack Redfearn and Paul Sadler officiating.
Burial was in Friendship Cemetery in Dongola.
Rev. Landis died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at Decatur General Hospital.
He was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Anna, Ill. to Willie E. and Mildred Nimmo Landis. He married Thelma Perkins Aug. 27, 1947. They celebrated 60 joy-filled years together with family and friends in 2007. He was ordained to the gospel ministry in 1950 and was loved ands appreciated by the church he pastored in Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky and Oklahoma. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during World II abroad the USS Persephone. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Landis of Hartselle; a daughter, Darlene Waynick and husband John of Hartselle; a son, Terry “Trudy” Landis of Austin, Tex.; five grandchildren, John Mark Waynick, Krista Blaxton and Kerri Waynick, all of Hartselle, and Stephen Landis and Emily Landis, both of Austin, Tex.; and four great-grandchildren, Cana Beth, Maisie, Brantley and Malachi; four sisters, Barbara Fisher of Dongola, Betty Gibbs and Roberta Middleton, both of Jonesboro, and Jean Middleton of Anna.
Pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church in Dongola.
