Thank you, Morgan County
Editor:
Holiday magic happened in our area during this Christmas season! Over 100,000 cans were collected during the 2007 Can-a-Thon, and over 60,000 cans were collected by the 29 participating schools! Special thanks to WAFF TV and the Colonial Mall for co-sponsoring this event. Around 20 agencies that provide food for people in our community benefited from this area-wide food drive, and you are responsible for the success of this effort!
Our hearts were overflowing with joy as the Holiday Hope Chests started pouring in from all over Decatur and Morgan County and continued to accumulate at the Volunteer Center! These feelings were multiplied and magnified as the number of Holiday Hope Chests reached over 1,500, with the help of generous students from schools and many caring community businesses, churches, agencies, clubs, and individuals.
Agencies that received Holiday Hope Chests for distribution are: ARC of Morgan County, Calhoun College Fatherhood Initiative Program, Boys and Girls Club, Boys Ranch, Committee on Church Cooperation, DCS Homeless Education, Decatur Youth Enrichment, Decatur Youth Services, East Acres Youth, Falkville Lions Club, Head Start of Decatur and Hartselle, Lexi House, Neighborhood Christian Center, P.A.C.T (Parents and Teachers Together), Quest, Salvation Army, Steers Day Care, and many other individuals! The generous and caring people of Morgan County from kindergarten age through adulthood have warmed our hearts and made Christmas dreams come true for so many children. A simple “thank you,” seems so inadequate at a time such as this, but thank you anyway! The surrounding Tennessee Valley communities have been impressed with the success that Morgan County has experienced through area-wide projects…now we have a tradition of caring to uphold!
A heartfelt thank you for your kind, generous, and caring spirit and for such great gifts in little boxes! You can be proud of your contributions for giving the best gift of all this holiday season…your resources, time, and love! Cassandra Thrower

Good people still exist
Editor:
On Dec. 23, I experienced a wonderful act of kindness. I was on my way to Huntsville, when my husband called to tell me a lady had found my wallet. I replied, “what?” She found it in the middle of Hwy 36, just before the Interstate. Apparently while I was pumping gas, I placed my wallet on the top of the car. I drove off with it still on the top of my car. Well, this lady braved the pouring rain and tremendous wind (not to mention traffic) to retrieve my wallet. It had been run over numerous times, but only two credit cards were destroyed. She went out of her way to call me (only to get no answer) and then to call my husband on his cell. She even met him to give him the wallet. My husband works in Decatur and she lives in Priceville. My Christmas could have been totally ruined. I just want to say thank you to this kind soul and to assure everyone there are still good, honest people out there!
