Danville gets past Addison

Both of Danville High School’s varsity basketball teams won easily over teams from Addison while playing at home Friday night. The Hawks won their game by a score of 73-48 while the Lady Hawks prevailed by a score of 58-42.
The Hawks (10-9) grabbed an early lead against the Bulldogs and never trailed in the game. They were ahead 16-12 after one period, 30-19 at halftime and 53-33 after three periods.
The Hawks were led by David Long and Roger Smith, both of whom scored 20 points. In addition, they pulled down 14 and 10 rebounds respectively. Dakota McClung added 10 points, Bryan Rogers had eight points and eight rebounds and Eric Cordova scored six points and had five.assists.
Colton Alston paced the losers in scoring with 26 points.
The Lady Hawks (16-6) got off to a fast start against the Lady Bulldogs and were able to maintain a comfortable lead throughout the contest.
They led 19-10 after the first period, 26-18 at halftime and 43-31 after three quarters.
Alaina Fitzgerald scored 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Lady Hawks both offensively and defensively. Ashley Nance added 12 points. Kayloni Cross had eight points, Lacey Evans scored seven points and had nine assists and Sarah Terry had six points.
Jessy Williams paced the losers with 23 points. Haley Wiggins added 12 points.
The lady Hawks sewed up first place in their area with a 6-0 record and will play host to the first round of post-season play.
Wilson credited his team’s success to the leadership provided by his two seniors, Fitzgerald and Laney Jolley and the early maturity of his freshmen players.
