Jan. 17, 1958-Eight Hartselle restaurants took part in today’s “coffee day.” This event raises money for the March of Dimes by having all proceeds from coffee sales donated to this wonderful charity. Local businesses that took part were Smith Restaurant, Johnson Ice Cream Co., Greyhound Bus Station, and the Segars, Doug Holloway, Hicks, Collins, and Street Car caf/s.
Jan. 17, 1958-The mother of Mrs. Warren Hamby, Mrs. Lena Stone, died this morning at Hartselle Hospital. Rev. Warren Hamby is the minister at First Methodist.
Jan. 18, 1958-Auburn may have prevailed in football, but the Tide basketball team trounced API 83-65 in a game played tonight at the state coliseum in Montgomery. Jack Kubiszyn was hot for Bama, scoring 38 points.
Jan. 19, 1958-Friends of Mrs. Nora McCall will regret to learn that she is now a patient at Hartselle’s Doctor’s Clinic. Many prayers are being said for her speedy recovery.
Jan. 20, 1958-Louis Blizzard, a man with strong Hartselle ties, is once again working with Decatur radio station WHOS as general manager. Most recently Mr. Blizzard has been working for WMSL radio and TV.
Jan. 21, 1958-Dr. Norman Vincent Peale’s film, “The Power of Positive Thinking,” based on his best-selling book, was shown to Hartselle Kiwanians tonight.
Jan. 21, 1958-MCHS senior basketballers beat Falkville tonight by the lopsided score of 63-49. James Ledbetter was the leading score for the Tigers with 25 points.
Jan. 22, 1958-The Morgan County Farm Bureau office on South Sparkman Street is currently being renovated.
Jan. 22, 1958-Two men were convicted of public drunkenness in city court this week. They were set back $15 each for this offense.
Jan. 23, 1958-Local Tide fans have watched with considerable interest as Texas A &M has looked high and low to find a successor to new Bama mentor Bear Bryant but, so far, to no avail.
Jan. 23, 1958-Long-time Morgan County Probate Judge T. C. (Cliff) Almon announces that he will be a candidate for another term. Judge Almon is extremely influential politically and aspiring politicians who get on his bad side will greatly jeopardize their own chances for success at the polls.
Jan. 23, 1958-Bud Massey of Hartselle did extensive damage to his relatively new Cadillac today in a wreck in Falkville. Mr. Massey recently purchased the high-end vehicle for $6,000 and it will cost about half that much to repair the damage the car sustained in the wreck.
