Hartselle solid at Athens

ATHENS - Hartselle’s Ethan Hamilton improved to 35-7 overall after winning the 189-pound championship at the Last Man Standing Invitational Saturday at Athens High School.
Six Hartselle wrestlers picked up at least one win in the tournament.
Kyle Davis was second in the 130-pound weight class after going 1-1, while Dalton Nagel (125) and David Filiatrault (160) both finished fourth in the 10-team tournament.
Nagel finished 2-1, while Filiatrault was 2-2.
The Tigers’ Zach Hill finished with a 2-2 record in the 145-pound weight class.
Also picking up a win was Alan Durham, who went 1-2 overall in the 135-pound weight class.
Hartselle will wrestle in the sectional tournament this weekend at Scottsboro. The state tournament will be Feb. 8-9 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
Wrestlers split tri-match
Hartselle beat Deshler with five pins last Thursday.
The Tigers opened the tri-match with a loss to Class 6A power Grissom after winning just one weight class against the Class 6A program.
Kyle Davis, wrestling at 130, recorded pins against Grissom and Deshler. He picked up the only win for Hartselle against Grissom.
Hartselle also got pins from Dalton Nagel (119), Zach Hill (145), Ethan Hamilton (189) and Garrett Baldwin (Heavyweight) to defeat Deshler.
David Filiatrault added a win by forfeit for Hartselle against Deshler.
