Hartselle has a new Downtown Merchants Association, thanks to action taken by some 25 business owners who attended a meeting at the City Hall Auditorium Jan. 17.
They elected a slate of officers, established annual membership dues and decided to limit membership to businesses located in the downtown area.
Carey Green was elected president; Gary McCaig, vice president; Melba Johnson, treasurer; and Deanne Fox, secretary.
Membership dues were set at $120 per year, payable monthly, quarterly or annually.
It was the consensus of the group that the association should be made up of downtown area businesses, however, establishing membership boundaries was deferred to a future meeting. It was agreed that a membership committee should study the subject and report back to the group with a recommendation.
Green stressed the importance of forming a mission statement and asked those present to think about the purpose of the association and pass along their thoughts and ideas to the secretary.
Merchants were asked to volunteer to serve on projects, membership and advertising committees.
