Brewer student killed in single-car accident

A Brewer High School junior was killed Jan. 25 when the car he was driving struck a tree on Talucah Road, two miles north of Valhermoso Springs.
The victim was Mark David Towne, 16, of Valhermoso Springs. He died from blunt force trauma to the chest and head, according to Russ Beard, Morgan County Coroner.
Towne, who would have been 17-years-old on Jan. 27, was the only person involved in the 7:23 p.m. accident, according to State Troopers. He was trapped inside of his car and rapid responders had to use mechanical devices to remove him. State Troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt.
The accident is still under investigation.
