Recycling plans moving ahead

Hartselle will begin providing its own curbside recycling service in early spring.
Mayor Dwight Tankersley said the city will assume the service May 9 and will provide pickup every other Friday. Allied Waste’s last day of service will be April 30.
Hartselle’s City Council approved a bid for the new recycling containers last week. The low bid, $40.91 per cart, came from Otto Trash and Recycling Containers. It was lower than a low bid rejected previously by the council. That bid was $42.01 per container.
The city will purchase 5,420 of the containers.
The plastic bins will have a lid and contain a graphic on the top showing what can be recycled.
The city made the move to offer its own recycling when Allied said they would not renew their existing contract at its current price. The city is working on bids for prospective companies to handle its recycling.
