Agnes Louise Taylor Pierce

Funeral for Agnes Louise Taylor Pierce, 88, of Somerville was Saturday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Revs. Harlon Hood and John W. Malone officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Pierce died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at Cordova Healthcare Center. She was born Jan. 29, 1920, in Morgan County to Edgar Deward Taylor and Elizabeth Louise Dyer Taylor. She resided in Somerville for more than 50 years and was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she served as a worker in vacation Bible school and Sunbeams and Mission Friends. She also served one year as the Sunbeams director for the Morgan County Baptist Association. She was a substitute teacher in the Morgan County School System for many years. Mrs. Pierce was also known for her beautiful poetry. She wrote and published two books, “Reminiscences” and “Falling Leaves.” Her poems were about family, children, nature, country life and faith in God. She frequently made presentations on poetry writing in public schools. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Everette M. Pierce.
She is survived by two sons, Sammy Pierce and wife Carlyine of Somerville and Tommy Pierce and wife Renee of Boaz; two daughters, Mary Malone and husband John of Somerville and Kay Best and husband Danny of Jasper; a foster son, Hillard Long and wife Gale of Somerville; two sisters, Olene Ogles of Cary, N.C. and Susan “Erma” Taylor of Ashland, Mass.; eight grandchildren, Christian Pierce, Samara Haynes, Lisa Malone, Phillip Rhegness, Keith Long, Adam Pierce, Dustin Pierce and Allison Pierce; and six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Grandsons were pallbeaers.
