Tigers torrid on trip south

Hartselle ran its season record to 9-1 after racking up three wins over two days as the Tigers scored 19 runs in the four games.
The Tigers beat Daphne, Spanish Fort and Robertsdale, but suffered their first loss of the season in a 5-3 decision to Fairhope.
Hartselle will return to action Friday at home against Grissom.
Hartselle 2, Daphne 1
Hartselle scored in the 10th inning to edge Daphne 2-1.
Chad Girodo got the win after scattering six hits while going the distance.
Daphne’s only run came in the first inning.
Giordo, who improved to 3-0, struck out 14 and walked just one.
Taylor Nelson finished 3-for-3 at the plate for the Tigers, while Ethan Widener, Zach Bodley, Garrett Turrentine, David Reeves and Mike Hasse all added one hit each.
Nelson scored one of Hartselle’s runs, while Widener drove in a run for the Tigers.
Hartselle 6, Spanish Fort 0
J.C. Bates struck out 12 in seven innings to help Hartselle stop Spanish Fort 6-0.
Bates, who improved to 3-0 overall, held Spanish Fort to just three hits.
The Tigers got a double and two runs from Ryan Joy, while Tony Weaver went 1-for-3 with a double and a run in the win.
Andrew Howard, Zach Waddell and Mac Hendrix added one hit each.
Fairhope 5, Hartselle 3
Widener had two hits in Hartselle’s loss to Fairhope, the first loss of the season for the Tigers.
Weaver and Bodley both had doubles in the loss. Hasse, Turrentine and Howard all added one hit for Hartselle.
Hartselle 8, Robertsdale 2
Turrentine went the distance as the Tigers beat Robertsdale 8-2.
Turrentine allowed just three hits in the win, while striking out three. All of Robertsdale’s runs came in the first inning.
The Tigers exploded in the fifth inning, scoring all eight of its runs.
Hendrix led the Tigers with two hits, while Reeves, Widener and Will Chappel all finished with a hit in the game.
